Monastiraki Flea Market
The flea market in Athens is open every day, but there is nothing like Sunday, the day when everyone comes out to sell their precious heirlooms and family junk. The market is filled with 2004 Athens Olympic pins (“Very rare,” the shopkeeper tells me), Drachmas (Greece’s former currency), and record players. I am pretty terrible at bargaining, but my friend Hannah has what it takes- “How much is it?” she says. “10 euro,” says the vendor. “No,” says Hannah.
And that’s how we get it for €5.
